The four fabulous presenters we had this week were:
- de Reborn
- Bush Tukka Fusion
- The Homelove Project
- Community Solar Crowdfunding Platform Development
After we heard the pitches, it was time to eat. Thank you to our amazing food sponsors! Organic sourdough bread was donated by The Woodfired Baker. We said goodbye to the delicious artisan ice-pops as they hibernate for the winter! Thanks again to Katie from Delish Ice for donating all of these crowd-favourites so far, and we are already looking forward to summer. We also enjoyed roasted pumpkin soup, which didn't last long! Too delicious.
The crowd loved The Homelove Project and they were announced as the winner! The Homelove Project founder Ky took home the $865 cash microgrant, a free community membership to Spacecubed for one year worth $300, a mentoring session from social venture capital company Fat Hen, access to professional mentors within the Spacecubed network and $100 of UBER credit!
Congratulations to Ky Sinclair and his team. They plan on spending the money by hiring another 20 or so professionals to run 20 different skill sets that Homelove doesn’t already offer - such as Bee Keeping, How to Build with Concrete & Bricks, How to modify your bike and many more.
"Homelove is all based around looking at alternatives to current systems that threaten the environment, thrive on damaging practices to third world cultures, and systematically oppress ‘the least of these’ in our world. The project matters to the community because it focuses on empowerment through knowledge, and focuses on ‘Teaching People, to be the Change’. Homelove understands that education is the most significant vehicle of change that can empower an individual; and they seek to utilise the power of education to give people an opportunity to be agents of change."
The first ever Vic Park SOUP was hosted by the Vic Park Collective at the Vic Park Bowls Club on Monday April 13th. It was a huge success! Perth SOUP co-founders Alex and Keeya were able to make it down on the night and show their support. Let's hope that more awesome community groups in Perth get involved and start up their own SOUPs.
Our next event is on Wednesday May 20th - book your tickets here!
